Thermomix Carpet Freshener

This recipe for a carpet freshner has been a favourite of mine ever since I received it from a branch meeting.  The recipe is from a talk given by Nikki Branson.  The instructions are Nikki’s; I have simply converted the ingredients to grams to save you from having to use any measuring cups!

Nikkii says “unlike commercial carpet deodorizers, my recipe contains all natural ingredients so it is much safer to use where people with allergies reside or a house where pets and children live.  Many animals can suffer severe dermatitis and skin conditions just from shop bought carpet deodorizers”.

Carpet Fresh

35 g lavender flowers, dried or fresh
210 bicarb soda
120 g cornflour
20 drops thyme or lavender essential oil

Place flowers into TM bowl and process for 15 seconds on Speed 9.

Add bicarb and cornflour and mix for 10 seconds on Speed 5.

Add oil and mix for 5 seconds on Speed 5.

Keep in airtight container and sprinkle over carpet around 30 minutes to an hour before vacuuming.

Variations

Cinnamon and clove – crush in Thermomix and add orange essential oil (a great one to use around the festive season).

Lavender and rosemary – use a 50/50 mix plus 20 drops rosemary oil.

Thyme and lavender – use a 50/50 mix

Citrus – blitz dried lemon and orange peel in Thermomix and add 20 drops lemongrass essential oil.

Thyme is a great addition to any one of these as it has antibacterial properties and is a great herb for getting rid of fleas from pets.
